Some of the common disorders that our Psychologists can help with include
Different therapies will require more or less sessions, and sometimes they can be different durations. CBT often involves some homework for you to take away with you. Some psychology sessions will involve psychometric tests which are essentially a series of questions that help the psychologist understand how you think.
Although psychologists and psychotherapists often do exactly the same work, sometimes using the same therapies, more often you will find that psychologists tend to work cognitively. That means they are inclined to use more rational therapies that examine and work with how you think in the here and now. Psychotherapists are more likely to work with your history, and examine how our life experience affects how you live today.
Many psychologists and psychotherapists have spent the same amount of time in training, are equally qualified, and may well use both cognitive and rational therapies.
We think it’s important to get the fit right, so we’re looking for the right kind of psychologist for you, depending on what their specialism is, how you and they work, and other factors such as yours and their gender. At the end of your first session with the psychologist they will have formed an initial impression of what you might benefit from, and they will make a recommendation which is often to have 6 or so sessions and then review progress. If you’re happy to start, then they will book you in for your next session and the work begins.
